Heat-resistant solutions for hazardous waste incineration plants
Improving industrial hazardous waste incineration plant efficiency increasingly requires innovative refractory materials. Temperature range of up to 1,400°C, with extreme temperature changes, high mechanical and chemical loads in the rotary furnace and in the secondary incineration chamber, imply increased requirements for refractories.
Materials containing chromium with a low SiO₂ content, are resistant to corrosion and infiltration, while at the same time provide flexible connections. Depending on the loads in a given area, STEULER-KCH guarantees a wide range of refractory materials that meet the requirements to the highest degree under changing conditions. STEULER-KCH has tested solutions for all types of hazardous material incineration plants.
Rotary furnace
The rotary furnace is the heart of every incineration plant. The refractory protection in this part of the plant is subject to extreme conditions.
Inlet and transition zone
Mechanical stresses on the refractory layer occur during rotary furnace operation. STEULER-KCH provides materials with high abrasion and pressure resistance. High moisture penetration also occurs in this area. The andalusite and alumina materials offered by our company, demonstrate very good properties in the variable temperature zone ranging from 900°C to 1150°C and high humidity.
Main combustion and discharge zone
In the combustion chamber, temperatures reach up to 1400°C, aggressive media and changing conditions occur. These are extreme stresses for refractory materials.
For over 25 years, STEULER-KCH has been supplying and applying alumina-based materials with a chromium oxide content of up to 15%. These materials exhibit high abrasion resistance. Tests carried out confirm the extraordinary resistance and durability of STEULER-KCH products. We offer you the possibility to develop individual concepts tailored to your needs.
Headwall
The headwall is mainly used for loading the incinerator. Solid waste is delivered via a chute to the rotary furnace, while liquids and slurries are fed via lances and burners.
Front protection options
We see the ever-increasing requirements for refractory headwall protection. This is caused by the need for higher capacity, greater temperature fluctuations due to varying calorific properties of fuels and more aggressive media.
STEULER-KCH offers innovative protection systems in the form of:
- brick linings of standard bricks and shaped bricks
- combined linings, i.e., of shaped and fired products in combination with refractory concretes
- monolithic linings
After-combustion chambers
In the after-combustion chamber, the refractory brick lining is exposed to chemical agents derived from strongly alkaline environments. In combination with temperatures of up to 1350°C, the liquid slag severely weakens the refractory lining.
STEULER-KCH designs, supplies and assembles refractory ceilings not only from dry-formed shapes, but also from monolithic linings. The extensive range of refractory concretes, steel elements and ceramic anchors offer a wide variety of solutions suitable for a specific load.
Wide range of products
Our product portfolio includes shaped and monolithic materials. The product range extends from dry extruded chamotte for inlet zones, through permanent linings and alumina to materials consisting of 99% alumina.
We provide our customers with an array of andalusite, bauxite, zirconia mullite and SiC. Depending on the requirement profile – for example in thermal waste management – we use additives such as chromium oxide and/or zirconium silicate. We use the most advanced firing technology at temperatures of up to 1,750°C. Our product range is completed by refractory and insulating bricks, mortars, refractory concretes and insulating materials.
Design, installation/application and supervision
Our offer includes design, production and complete installations including application. Based on steel construction drawings and process data, STEULER-KCH also designs complete refractory protection systems for each apparatus. The scope of work includes not only installation drawings, but also heat transfer calculations and recommendations for the drying/firing procedure. Our highly qualified supervisory staff manages the application process and ensures its monitoring. In this way, we ensure professional implementation of complete refractory protection solutions.
Flue gas and waste water treatment
Special refractory materials and their systems are required for the harsh chemical conditions created by liquid waste and high-temperature flue gases. For flue gas and waste water treatment plants, STEULER-KCH also supplies highly abrasion-resistant materials.
The range of materials and performance services provided by STEULER-KCH also includes cost-effective solutions for the pulp and wood industry, wastewater treatment plants and municipal waste incineration plants.
